How does Collide with Attached Children work?

In a pawn blueprint, on the mesh component there is a check box under the clothing rollout “collide with attached children”.

The naming suggests that attached objects will collide with apex clothing objects, e.g a staff mesh that is attached to the mesh component but follows the movement of a socket colliding with a cape during animation. I’ve been attempting the get this working (the cloth collides with World Static objects fine with the collide with environment check box) but i can’t seem to figure this one out yet. Has anyone used/set this up before or know how it works?

It is my understanding that Apex cloth only collides with the collision volumes defined when the cloth asset was authored (ie in 3ds max or maya).

It would be very interesting to know what this check box is intended for.
