UE 4.10.3 prerequisites failed to install repeatedly E-1223

On two computers, Windows 10 64 bits, up to date, 8Go RAM, SSD, administrator account, Visual Studio 2015 Community with Update 1.

I’ve tried dozens of times to update for UE 4.10.3, and then 4.10.4 but always failing repeatedly with E-1223.

I’ve been using all tips I could gather on AnswerHub (uninstalling prereq, uninstalling ms redist, runing UE prereq installer by command line with the same command line found in the logs…)

In the past, I had to do that to install UE 4.10, then Update 1 and 2, but this times it is a lot harder for me (as reported also by other users).
This is quite ironical as update 3 should have bring a fix for this issue…

I’ve attached logs from my 20th install of yesterday.

UE 4.11 preview 5 does not work either for me.

This evening I’ve finally succeeded by executing Launcher in administrator mode and that is why I report here, because I’ve seen a fix in a changelog about “not trying to install prerequisites if account has no administrator rights” and so I thought this report could be useful.

Hello!

I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble. It seems that you’ve covered all of the standard steps, but could you please try the follow steps in the following order:

  1. Manually download and install DirectX from here: Link
  2. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86). On 64bit Windows also install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)
  3. Install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012. On 32bit Windows install vcredist_x86.exe. On 64bit Windows install both vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.
  4. Install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013. On 32bit Windows install vcredist_x86.exe. On 64bit Windows install both vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.

Restart the launcher and attempt the download. If you are still getting the error, please reply back and we will continue to investigate for you.

Hi, no sorry I cannot try this since running as Administrator did the trick, I am now up to date.

Ah! I apologize! My misunderstanding!

Hello!

I’m closing this ticket at resolved. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

the most annoying thing is that it downloads the whole update again and again…this needs to be adressed as well.
