Crash in Material Editor using Surface Pro 3

Hi There, I’m using UE4 on my Surface Pro 3 and seem to have only this problem:

When I open the Material Editor it doesn’t take long until I get this error message and the engine crashes!

Everything else works properly when using low graphics settings it seems to crash only when I want to use the Material Editor… could it be hardware related?

Windows 8.1 Pro

Processor: Intel(R) Core™ i7-46500 CPU @ 1.70GHz 2.30 GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 8.00GB

Hi GullJemonStudios -

We have some known conflicts with Intel Integrated Graphics cards which Surface Pro’s use, more information here. To confirm this run the DXDIAG on your Pro and post the results here.

Thank You -

Ah yes and while I’m at it: the engine also crashes when I try to hit the “build” icon, it’s the exact same crash I’m getting as in the material editor, I suppose they are correlated?

Hi GullJemonStudios -

Looking at your DXDIAG, it does appear to be the known conflict with a certain Intel Integrated Graphics Driver which is causing your crash.

You can download the latest driver found here:

Installing this driver will correct the crashes you are experiencing. Often times with certain laptops (tablets) the manufacturer will not allow you to upgrade to this version of the driver, in which case users have had success in downgrading to a lower version and then upgrading to the higher linked version.

Thank You

Dind’t quite work out with your link but I found a way:
First I uninstalled the graphics card until I was stuck with the microsoft basic display adapter, then I istalled from this link here (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25588/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-15-36-), after that I ran UE4 and the crashes when pressing the build icon and when using the material editor seem to be no more! thanks a lot!
