Artefacts on FPS character

I just noticed that the FPS chracter has substantial artefacts when moving. It was also a bit messy in previous versions, but now its really in-your-face.

Hi KVogler -

I am not seeing this Aliasing on my 4.11, can you verify that your Engine Scalability Settings are set to EPIC?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

On Epic settings it happens for me as well. The problem goes away the moment I disable motion blur in the post process settings, and has been a consistent issue in the engine for a long time now. It isn’t even really artifacting, it just looks like the motion blur makes moving objects render at 1/8th the resolution and composites it onto the screen afterwards.

This doesn’t only happen with the FPS template, but with the others as well. It’s always most noticeable on objects like the player model/gun model that stay in relatively the same position on the screen while things behind it move.

Hi Eric,

Yes, the settings are EPIC.
The effect is mostly noticeable whne the character is moving sideways.
Back and forth only produces a small effect.

Adding to what Daniel said: Indeed, it is also happening in other template projects.

Hi KVogler -

I was able to reproduce this issue and we are currently tracking it as UE-16365. It is a result of Motion Blur interactions with Temporal AA and while I do not have an immediate fix, you can mitigate the problem by adjusting the Motion Blur settings in your post process elements.

Thank You
