UE4 freezes when I try to make destructible mesh

Hi, I’m playing with the destructible mesh functionality, and for simple objects it works fine.

However every time I try to create a destructible mesh from the standard object SM_MatPreviewMesh, the program just freezes up and I have to kill it in the task manager. This could just be be an unfortunate combo of my hardware, or it could be a sign of a more general bug. Since the program freezes up, I’m not prompted for a bug report.

Keep up the good work…

My hardware/OS is:
Windows 7
16 GB RAM
Intel i7 4770K 3.50 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770

Hello

There are a few pieces of information that would help to know. Especially your log files and dxdiag.

Please reference the How do I report a bug? post for the information that can be helpful, including your system specs and logs to provide. Also, a screenshot of your destructible mesh’s details may help. Once we have that information, we will be able to further investigate.

Thanks,

Hi,

Here is my log file (destructmeshtest.txt) and DXDIAG.
I had to rename the log file to txt, because I got this message when I tried to upload the .log file “This attachment is not permitted because the file type is invalid”

It’s easy to replicate this crash.

  • Just open a blank project with the starter content.
  • Select the Props folder, and right click on the SM_MatPreviewMesh_02 object.
  • Select “Create Destructible mesh” from the menue.
  • When the edit screen appears, don’t change anything, just click the “Fractur Mesh” button, and the program Freezes up…

Regards,
Morten

Also here is a screen capture, just before the Freeze. No sure if this is very helpful though, as the system is in its initial state, and no changes has been made to the parameters.

Hi mortengu,

I was able to reproduce this and am attaching this page and my own findings to a bug report for assessment. Have a great day!
