Light building problems

When I build the light it stays at 0% for longer than it should be, at first I thought it was a bug, but then I believe that the foliage is the cause of it. I am led to believe that if i select the foliage and then in the details panel hit Actor Hidden in Game that would do the trick. Any advice?

Hi,

By default any static meshes used with foliage will use their default lightmap resolution which is too high. If you want to use static lighting with foliage, then you need to go into the Foliage tool and select the asset. Then in the panel with the settings you can select the option for lightmap resolutions. This will now use a lower lightmap resolution defaulted to 8.

Since these objects get clustered together it’s better for any objects that need to have lighting built. If you’re foliage is moving with wind or needs to sway in any way to bring your world to life I would suggest disabling static lighting so that you don’t have to worry about baked lighting. It depends on your game, but it’s an option as well.

I hope this helps.

So I did that, and I even have it setup so that the foliage doesn’t cast a shadow, but for some reason it stays building at 0%.

So it finally finished building, I guess it was just a lot information to compile. Thank you for the help.
