The Engine is freezing every single time I'm trying to import an obj/fbx file

The Engine is freezing every single time I’m trying to import an obj/fbx file.
This happens on both 4.9 and 4.10 versions…I really need some help…I don’t know what details to add to this ,error"
but I’ll try to answer to all questions.Thank you all a lot.

Try importing this .fbx and let me know if the engine freezes on it’s import:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/unrealengine/marketplace_samples/SK_Mannequin.fbx

If it doesn’t then you may need to look into how you are exporting your .fbx/.obj files from you 3d program and what settings you are using on export.

Yes,it Imported with no problem…How can I send you my FBX file so you can tell me what’s wrong with it?..

Well…I think you can see that I maybe have too many faces…

If this is a problem, can you tell me how to solve it?

I’ve imported a mesh with over 5M polys before…how are you exporting it? What settings are you using on export? If you send me the .obj/.fbx I can take a look at it if you’d like

How can I send it to you?I cannot use the Attachement tool because it says that ,the attachment is not permitted because the file type is invalid".

Yeah it will have to be an external site like dropbox/google drive etc.

Imported fine for me as is:

This is at 140k triangles…what is this rock going to be for? Is it your Hero rock?

Mesh → Reduce will lower the poly count

What is your poly count? Are you sure it is freezing and not just working in the background? The higher the poly count the longer the import time. Something to consider is that higher polys come with a much higher performance cost and depending on your system can take a very long time to import and the performance of your assets will need to be focused on your targeted platforms. Really high poly (above 500k polys) is never a good idea unless you have a very specific target platform for its use. Just some FYI is all.

There you go!Thanks for telling me that.

Sooo…How can I change the poly count in Autodesk Maya?

The problem is,that it takes more than 5 minutes to import it…And it’s just a rock…I have in mind to create hundreds of rocks, and I cannot wait 5-10 mins for each…I think I’m going to use it for the environment…Maybe my PC is a little slower…Can you give me some tips about exporting? And,can I change the Poly Mesh somehow? Or,I don’t know…I just gotta find a way to import it faster…

You may want to give it some time to import at that level because of the higher poly count…if you have a slower system it will take some time to import.

Yeah…you need to really lower that poly count then…140k triangles is waaaaaay to high if you want 100s in your scene…aim for something in the mid range of 500-1000 or less and use normal maps for the extra details

Sooo, how can I lower it down?
I’m using Autodesk Maya.

Mesh → Reduce

Thank you sooo much, man! The import process took only 30 seconds!I have no words to describe how thankful I am!
Another BIG thank you!
