UE 4.10 Crashes and Freezes Randomly

I have where the editor will crash or freeze randomly when I exit play mode… It is extremely randomly and the crash reports vary randomly… Sometimes it will say it a tick issue other times it will be a trace… Sometimes I get no errors and it just freezes… This can be caused exiting play mode or loading another level. Sometimes it will happen after exiting instantly other times it half way through the game and done testing gameplay… It completely random and can’t find a common bond… Some things I find odd is all my blueprints have tick disabled since I only use timers or timelines to drive anything that would need to be updated for a short period…

After reading over your post, it appears that you are having a few separate issues. I have a few questions that will help narrow down what issues you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. I understand that these issues appear random, however can you reproduce these issues in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce these issue on our end?
  3. If not, could you provide the project that is having these issues along with steps that most commonly cause the issues that you are seeing?

I shall try it over the week… :slight_smile: I am wondering if it might be related to another bug which is Blueprint appear to loss properties when placed on maps… Not entirely sure what triggering it but I did see this bug appear on the answer hub for 4.10.

So I created a blank map with just this blueprint above… And it constantly crashed/froze unreal… It was random and resulted in me pressing play and exit play about 50 times at different time frames… But it would result in a freeze… I did have my player pawn and other stuff up but doing a similar test didn’t create the crash… When it was just the pawn and weapon… Some things to note I had 30 of this placed connected to 1 dynamic light each… Does turning on and off tick result in this behavior? If so there are some approved marketplace content that does this which is why I was using this method…

I tried to take a look at your blueprints but the link given does not appear to be working correctly. Would it be possible for you to provide screen shots and/or a new link?

Here the screenshot from the link… What I think happening is it doesn’t like constantly turning on and off tick… or turning on tick if it on…

I have recreated this blueprint in a project on my end and I cannot reproduce this issue. Would it be possible for you to provide the clean project that was used to reproduce this issue on your end?

Sure! I’ll look into it when I get home it was very inconsistent and required it to be placed/linked multiple times… It could be maybe this plus my player pawn created it but since removal of this I have not had a crash or freeze…

I was able to do it on a brand new project with just that bp… It froze

I had 30-100 Instances of the bp positioned across the play area each one linked to 1 Moveable Point light, I waited roughly 5-30 seconds and exited play mode and had a complete freeze of unreal… It took several attempts but it happened after the 5-15th attempt… The more instances you have the more likely it is to happen… I think it has to do with turning the tick on and off… But could be wrong either way it shouldn’t freeze on exit…

Could you provide the project that you are using currently to reproduce this issue on your end? This way I can take a closer look and make sure that we are on the same page.
