Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Why is my mesh disapearing when I add cloth?

Hey guys. I'm using the Physx Cloth plugin in Maya to create some APEX clothing for some flags I'm making. I managed to get the flag to simulate in Maya and get it imported into UE4. However, after I apply the .apx file onto the flag section of the skeletal mesh, it just disappears, leaving only the flagpole visible.

Here's what it should be like in engine. alt text Without APEX clothing applied. alt text With APEX clothing applied. alt text

Any ideas? :(

I'm having the exact same issue: cloth part of mesh disappears when APEX clothing asset added (tried with both .apb and .apx).

Did adjusting the scale settings work? I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

To tell you the truth I've not actually tried! :O I've been super lazy over the past few weeks haha! I did get the project finished for my class however. I hope to expand on it more, and I managed to get it accepted to this years DiGRA exhibition. You can check it out here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSinE3XrAaE

I'll get back onto maya and see if I can't fix the apex issue this week. Will post back if I get anywhere!

Okay, here's the solution (for me, anyway). It does indeed have to do with scale.

  1. Start your Maya or Max model from scratch to make sure your units and scale are right. I was initially working with a version of a very old Maya file I'd messed around with in the past for Unity cloth, and the units were messed up no matter how I adjusted it.

  2. When setting up in Maya or Max, make sure your units are set to what you want. In Maya this is under Display > Grid (click the options box to the right of "Grid" label):

Setting Units

  1. Create your model w/ the cloth mesh, etc. (Tutorials / guidance on this elsewhere.) The larger the scale of the cloth meshes, the better, in my experience.

  2. When exporting for Unreal (as apex or physx file), you need to check AGAIN that your units are correct. Maya will sometimes, for example, try to export in Meters even when your whole scene was created in Centimeters. You catch that and correct it here:

(Though again, when I changed this from M to CM on a pretty old Maya file I'd gone back to, it didn't help. When I changed it on a new file started from scratch, it exported perfectly.)

Hope this helps anyone who may be struggling with this.

Thank you so much! @monotoan. The unit in cm fix did it for me :)
