How do I display a material on the screen?

Hello! I’m trying to display a material to the screen in my game. In this case, it would be a masked material of a paper with writing on it.
So far I’ve determined that Blends in the camera/post process would possibly be the way to do it, but I can’t figure out how to render the paper on the screen without it darkening the entire scene and being discolored.
Any help or examples would be incredibly helpful and much appreciated. Thank you! -Matt
