Why is one object in the scene stubbornly dark?

hey guys.

I know there are a LOT of threads on dark object. I feel like i have checked every option and every possible cause. The object was fine before. Then one day, i just opened the map, added some objects on the other side of the map and rebuilt lighting. Previously, everything was fine. The scene is Outdoor, all objects are set to movable because baking lighting was too dark.

I deleted the object, and reimported several times. Same issue. Similar objects next to it never got affected. The problem is the its shadows are so dark compared to the objects next to it. and they have similar UVs, exact same settings etc… I wish i could post an image but we haven’t shown our game in public yet.

Is this a bug? or am i missing something? also, i failed to mention, all the object are scaled very large. I tried prescaling them to end with similar issues previously, shadows are too dark with dynamic lighting. Here are some of the facts:

  • outdoor scene
  • 1 main directional light
  • skylight is already softening all shadows
  • atmospheric fog
  • all shadows look great except for this 1 object which wasn’t giving issues previously.

Thanks in advance you guys.

ok magical update.

moving the object away from the current location makes the object brighten GRADUALLY as if the camera is adjusting shadows specifically only for one object.

moving it back to its initial location makes it darken gradually… what is going on? Did i just find the bermuda triangle of the my map?

It is difficult to say something without seeing some screenshots. Can you reproduce this in another level or project?

Do you get any errors or warnings when you build lighting? Also as Jacky has pointed out a screenshot or two would be helpful as well.

ok so i had to adjust lightmap resolutions of the objects then i added a skylight and kept tweaking the shadow options until the shadows were soft. also i made sure the objects were movable and not stationary. so… i don’t know why this made a difference but it did.
