Moving geometry freezes editor

Hi,

Every time i move any type of geometry i have a freeze in engine. . Why is this happening?

My specs: Windows 8 64 bit, GTX 680 2GB, AMD FX8350 8 core, 16GB Ram 2400 Mhz

I created a new level from project in first person, and now ,after putting some geometry, editor freeze for 1 - 2 min when i move them…

Thank you …I had already read that post… but I can’t do every time “build geometry”… :confused:

It only happens with geometry…it’s frustrating… I don’t know what to do …

I think is referring to this part of post he linked:

“Try turning off update bsp automatically. This is located in Edit>EditorPreferences>Miscellaneous. There is a known bug with this specific feature that is causing slow and freeze issues.”

Have you tried turning that off yet?

Yes, I did … but it’s frustrating, because every time I should do “build geometry” to see it moved! no?

This is correct, by turning off automatic bsp update, you will have to use “build geometry” button to be able to update your geometry in viewport.

I know you tried reproducing in a new level but could you also try reproducing it in a entirely new project? Perhaps blank project and another new FPS project?

so… i can’t do anything for automatic bsp update without editor freeze?

Yes i tried… After i put some geometry like 300 type editor continue freeze when i moved them .

i don’t think problem is my Pc, because when i put other object like particle system editor had no freeze

If you are experiencing known issue that and mentioned then that seems to be current workaround until we have been able to fix freezing issue.

Have you tried changing your bsp’s to static meshes? BSP’s are known to take significantly more power than static meshes, so converting them is a great way to reduce amount of data being used.

i have maybe a suggestion … it freezes when actors numbers about 300 … maybe we can fuse or match actors to few actors to reduce number… maybe it work but i don"t know how to do that ?

Try changing your bsp’s to static meshes. They are significantly less resource intensive. You can do this through details pane.

i did and it looks only solution for this …but static mesh need UV mapping and light resolution and collusion …
im using 4.4 maybe if i change to 4.6 it work ? :frowning:

This has been updated in a more recent version of editor. If you create static mesh and open static mesh editor, you can set UV chanel to 1, then change Light Map Coordinate Index to 1, this will apply UV’s to it in 4.6.1.
