How do i make hair card like 'Paragon Character'?

Hi, I’m Nick.
Please see below picture.

I wonder how to make ‘Hair Card’ like that.
I heard ‘Ornatrix’ can make hair card like paragon character.
but I knew hair and fur cannot use in UE4.
Please let me know right information about hair.
I want to use new hair shader! it is really awesome!

best regards
Nick

To make hair cards like in Paragon you’ll have to use another DCC 3D package like 3dsmax, Maya, Blender, Modo, Zbrush etc. Ornatrix is a plugin for 3dsmax (and possibly others) which makes it a little faster and convenient for making them but you can manually make them (they are just polygonal planes after all).

Depending on your preferred workflow there is a pipeline to suit. For instance you can use Zbrush’s Fibermesh and convert that to spline or poly data in Max etc.

The thin hairs (fly away hairs) are simply splines that have been converted to polys. They may be doing some nice stuff like skewing the verts in the vertex shader at oblique angles to keep their “thickness” since flat hair cards can lose their depth at certain angles.

If you just want to play with the new hair shader then there are examples in the updated Content Examples Pack (via the Marketplace/Learning).

Finally - yes you can do hair/fur in UE4 using this method. You may be thinking of certain hair or shader techniques that aren’t possible out-of-the-box but with some tweaking anything is possible :). Also you can look into GameWorks and TressFX that have their own branches and cool stuff going on.
