Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

In your %Temp% folder you'll find some logs that start with UE4_Prerequisites. To access this folder simply type %Temp% into the Windows File Explorer file path bar. Zip those files up, attach to the thread, and I'll have a look. Judging by your previous post, I suspect we'll find that DirectX is having an issue installing again. If that is the case, we'll have to apply a workaround somewhat similar to the one you used to get the Launcher installed. I'll work on getting the steps for that workaround drafted up while I waiting on your logs.

As suspected, DirectX is not installing properly. Here are the interesting bits out of your install log:

     Installing DirectX.
     DXSetup exited with code: -9
     Failed to install DirectX.
CustomAction CAInstallDirectX returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

Will post up a workaround shortly.

I'm still actively trying to track down the reason some users encounter the code -9 DirectX error. It would be incredibly helpful if you could attach your DirectX.log files. They are usually found here: C:\Windows\Logs

The full instructions are here for anyone else encountering this issue. @Avi3ator, since you ran through steps 1-4 already when troubleshooting in a previous thread, you can start at step 5.

NOTE: This workaround only applies when your Engine install fails with error: 'The necessary prerequisites have failed to install'.

  1. Manually download and install DirectX from here: Link

  2. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86). Also install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)

  3. Install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012. Install both vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.

  4. Install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013. Install both vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.

  5. Install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. Install both vc_redist.x86.exe and vc_redist.x64.exe.

  6. Right click on your Epic Games Launcher desktop shortcut and select Properties. Under the Shortcuts tab, find the Target field and add this to the end of it(pictured below): -SkipBuildPatchPrereq

  7. Double click the desktop shortcut to start the launcher.

  8. Install the Unreal Engine.

  9. As soon as you have the engine installed, close the launcher and REMOVE the -SkipBuildPatchPrereq flag from your shortcut. Startup the launcher again.
