Epic Launcher will not start mac os x

After fighting with trying to get UE 4.10 and 4.11 to convert my project for the last couple of months, I decided to try something different since I noted that the Epic Launcher was marking 4.11 as corrupted and was getting an error at launcher start up (though it seemed to work). I reinstalled the Epic Launcher, hoping to reinstall 4.11 over again. I downloaded it and put it in Applications. Now it gets the error:

Install Failed

A file corruption has occurred. Please try again.

and then quits.

Redownloading doesn’t help, reinstalling from the dmg doesn’t help. I was already getting that error (only in a completely different style of dialog box) prior to trying to fix the launcher, but before, it would at least open the launcher, now it will not open at all. Unfortunately, my one functional UE (4.9) has now stopped working as a result of doing this so I can’t even work on the retrograde version of my game. I’m really at a loss. Is there something wrong with the newer version of launcher and editor for Mac OS X? It’s been solid problems since 4.9.

I should mention that I have had these problems on a Mid-2010 Mac Pro, and just moved to a late 2013 trashcan style in hopes that it would help. Still on Yosemite. My is still on his Late-2013 Trashcan using 4.9, not permitting any upgrades, and his installation remains functional.

I also note that during repeated downloads of the launcher, it has to be restarted after SSL error to your download site. Perhaps if that is happening there, it’s also happening during the launcher’s initial startup where it flashes “Downloading” repeatedly. I don’t know what log would say what is actually failing.

Thank you for responding . I did that and I did find where I had a problem, this was not related to failing with UE, but I’ve had so many issues with 4.10 and 4.11, that I was getting too impetuous.

The specific was indeed permissions. On the mac, the /users/shared/blah directories of Epic / UE software have to be owned by the right user and will work for only one user. When I reinstalled Epic and when I tried to use it, those directories under that path were owned by the original user of this machine. I changed them to read/write for everyone, and that allowed Epic Launcher to work for me. It was able to update itself and start up this morning. It doesn’t fix the UE issues I’m having, but I’m pretty certain, those are that my project has become too complex to run through either the 4.10 or 4.11 conversion. I may have to start over one component at a time to eliminate the cruft.
