After updating my project to 4.11, my computer freezes when I open certain levels in the project.
So I’ve looked into it, and I’ve found that POM decals in the levels cause the trouble.
Standard surface POM material works well, it matters only when I use it as decal. Even editing it in material editor is fine, but placing any POM decal material into an empty decal component causes complete freeze, instantly.
Using just a basic material setup for POM Decals I’m not seeing any performance hit that you’ve described or any problem applying the material to a decal actor.
Can you provide the following please:
DxDiag for your machine
Are you able to reproduce this in blank project or only in your personal project?
Can you provide the full material setup you’re using or a simple project attached here for me to test?
Without the full material setup that you’re using I’m not sure if I’ll see the same thing on my end. The basic setup I have isn’t causing any issue that I can see.
Thank you for the test project and material setup. I was able to see that this was causing a Video driver crash. I recreated this project in 4.10.4 and it appears that the crash was not happening there. I’ve submitted UE-29968 to see if this one can be investigated and if it’s something that is caused by UE4.
From you’re DxDiag I could see that you were on the latest NVIDIA drivers with 164.72 and I’m on 161.75 which at least shows me it wasn’t specifically a driver upgrade that started causing this issue.
Hi, totally sorry to revive such an old thread. Just a question. This is supposed to be fixed in 3016901, but we are curious to know what the bug was. Alas, we don’t have access to the subproject. And UE-29968 is nowhere to be found in changelogs. Is it possible to know where this was merged in UE4’s P4, and for which files? Thank you.
