- Set Tracking Origin = Eye Level

Hey all, I’ve noticed that my character spawn always seems to be offset from the center of my Room Scale Blue Circle when I set Tracking Origin = Eye Level in my Game mode. When Set Tracking Origin = Floor, my character spawns in right in the middle of my Room Scale Blue circle.

Would love some help in checking if this is a bug or it’s only an issue on my end.

Hello Pramod,

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide screen shots of any blueprints that may be involved with this issue?

Hey Rudy. Here are my steps in a clean First Person Project in 4.11

  1. Add the 3rd person mesh and in the viewport I position it to overlap with the first person Hands mesh

  2. In the game mode, I set the Tracking Origin to Floor, the 3rd person mesh spawns underneath the first person mesh at a z-offset ( This is probably due to the camera refactor) I need to add a base Camera Scene transform to add a Z offset according to the wiki. That’s fine.

  3. When the tracking origin is set to Eye level, the 3rd person mesh is spawned away from the first person camera and remains at an offset as the character moves.

To make the 3rd person mesh line up in game with this setting, it has to be offset in the viewport to somewhere far from the character, which is the issue.

Would love some help on this.

Any updates Rudy? At the very least is someone looking into this?

Thanks

I’m not using the set tracking origin anymore.
After a room setup, the first time a UE4 build is launched or Editor is opened and VR preview is hit,
the Set Tracking Origin seems to set the current headset location X, Y and Z and sets the eye or floor level and spawns the character there, as opposed to getting the position from the existing Room setup position and just modifying the Z height for eye / floor.

I don’t see the use of Set Tracking origin anymore, as with the camera refactor, I just add Z=-96 to the Camera and Hand controller i.e. set them to the bottom of the capsule component. When the game starts, they are raised up to the right height.
