Surface Pro 3 compared to Surface Book for UE4

Hi there,
With my Surface Pro 3 (Intel i7-4550U CPU and Intel Graphics 5000) I’ve had not so much trouble using UE4 but obviously the performance can drop pretty quickly. Since I’m only focusing on low-graphics products this is actually not so bad but still a better pc would improve my workflow, so I was thinking…

Since now I’ve been using my Surface Pro 3 Tablet/Laptop for development in UE4 and I’m considering buying the new Microsoft Surface Book (Intel Core i7-6600U CPU and Nvidia GeForce Maxwell Graphics Card). I know that the Surface Book is not for next gen gaming, but I was able to play Skyrim on my Surface Pro 3 with no problems and honestly a game with the graphics of Skyrim is beyond what I had in mind - so the surface book could be the thing for me right? You see, I’m not only going to use the Surface Book for Game Development in UE4!

It was my preference to have a tablet/pc solution because I need to be mobile: I’m also doing music recordings, a bit of video editing and sometimes artwork related stuff hence the touch support with the new and more sensitive pen comes in handy. Considering all the Facts presented here… Is there any urgent issue with the Surface Book or any important reason to not buy this product. I’m not going to buy it all too soon, I want to wait until the price goes down a little, but then… is it worth it?

Thanks for you opinions!
Have a nice Day

Well, since there are no opinions on that yet I will have to make the test myself, right? It will take probably another half year before I will buy that thing and when I tested it I will give you my results here…

So I am a little early but since my surface pro 3 eventually broke I had no other choice but to invest.

I have decided to buy the Surface Book with the i7 processor and the aditional Nvidia GPU, using this device with Unreal Editor works way better than with my Surface Pro 3…

The things going on inside the main game view port can now be displayed on the highest graphics settings and it will still not slow down the frame rate whereas with my Surface Pro 3 it sometimes even start to stutter with all the graphics settings at their lowest! All in all it’s a very good device to work with UE4 for me.

I guess if you always work at home or in an office, for the same price it would make more sense to buy a real pc but if you’re like me, who needs a portable pc that can still do a lot of things on a very high standard, then the Surface Book will surely suffice.

Hope this small review was insightful, thanks a lot.
