What Computer To Buy

I want to buy a CPU for UE4. However, I have a very low budget, and I already have a nvidia geforce 7800 graphics card. So what do you recommend?

You mean GF7800 not GTX780? GF7800 is SM3.0 GPU it won’t work with UE4, SM4.0 GPU (also misleadly called DX10 compatiblity) is absolute minimum (atleast GF8xxx series) but for full feature compatiblity you need SM5.0 GPU (also called DX11 compatibility)

Its a GTX7800

Something like this is probably about the cheapest you can get that will run UE4 good enough to use. It won’t handle larger levels well. With that graphics card you have, your going to need a new pc, not just the CPU as it will probably be a horrible experience if you get it to work. What I’m linking is a a bare-minimum and not something you want for production if your making a commercial game or for school if your doing projects and need it to be very reliable, but should be fine to learn to use the engine with.

Whats the cheapest one that will work? I don’t think I can afford that one.

I think your maybe out of luck for less than $500 for new. You’ll need to get creative and look for a used computer.

If the computer can’t handle it, if it boots up it will overheat. And overheating components will cause them to have problems, cause computer shutdowns etc.

So if I wanted to find a computer on my own, what should I look for?

The graphics card is the most important thing. Basically look for a gaming pc. I’m not current on the Radeon number system, but for Nvidea cards you want a 3 number card and generally the last 2 numbers should be 60 or higher. The 750Ti is an exception to that and is a relatively inexpensive card that can run UE4. You also would have better experience with 8 gig ram, though I think it will technically run with 4. Quad core cpu.

Id recommend last gen AMD, like the 280x ~$220

Or AMD Fury Nano

Thanks!!
