Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Foliage tool meshes not casting shadows

Hello all,

I really only have a general knowledge UE4. I just wanted to get that out there first thing.

I have a stylized, low-poly exploration and story driven game I'm slowly developing.

I ran into a problem with my shadows when I try to build lighting. My trees, that I've placed with the foliage tool, don't cast shadows. I've tried every combination of static lighting and dynamic lighting and other such things with no luck. The only time it casts shadows is when I set dynamic shadows to true and I move the directional light a bit. Then it gives the "Preview" shadow but I soon as I build lighting they go away and I get this message in the message log:

"Performance Warning InstancedPoliageActor_0 Large actor receives a pre-shadow and will cause an extreme performance hit unless bCastDyanamicShadow is set to false."

As I just said if I set that to false I don't get shadows. I know the foliage is bugged right now but is there anything I can do?

Thanks

Taylor

P.S. Heres what I'm talking about:

1 answer: sort voted first

Hello again! Alright, so look at this doc first: StationaryLightShadows then under the DETAILS tab under your DIRECTIONAL LIGHT use these settings: alt text, between those two, you should be good to go. You were on the right track with dynamic shadows. Just need to finesse it a bit.
