Unreal Engine 4 editor error at launch (0xc0000022)

Immediately after trying to launch the editor, a message saying the following appears:

UE4Editor.exe - Application Error.
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022).

I have tried multiple different versions, all give me the exact same error. I have a feeling it’s an issue with my computer, as the program doesn’t even begin to try and launch before giving me the error. I’ve tried turning off my firewall and antivirus, as well as launching from the file itself rather than the Epic Games Launcher, to no avail.

My laptop’s specs:
Intel Core i7-6700 CPU, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 64-bit, and a GTX 980m.

No one else seems to have encountered this error code. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Astroninja,

The error (0xc0000022) seems to be a common Windows error that occurs across a number of programs vs being related to UE4 alone.

Here are a couple of links that describe the cause of the error in detail as well as some suggestions to correct the issue.

Browsing through these pages, it looks like you’ll want to reinstall the UE4 Launcher as an Administrator with exceptions for UE4 set in your Antivirus and Firewall, among other things.

Another possible solution is to navigate to the \Epic Games\4.8\Engine\Binaries\Win64 folder, right click on UE4Editor.exe, and open the Properties menu. Inside the properties menu click on the Security tab and make sure that it is set to Allow for all users.

Let me know if any of these links/suggestions correct this issue.

Hi Astroninja,

Since we have not heard back from you in a while we are marking this post “resolved” for tracking purposes. However, if you are still having problems opening the EU4 Editor from the launcher please respond and list what steps above you tried in order to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
