Engine won't load after enabling "Support global clip plane for Planar Reflections"

I enabled Global clip plane checkbox to true for Planar Reflections, got a message that engine needs to restart. But when I try to start engine it won’t load anymore and gets stuck during initializing phase at 45%.

After setting back r.AllowGlobalClipPlane value to False in DefaultEngine.ini everything workds fine.
Tried several times with other projects, and each time when i set GlobalClipPlane flag to True engine gets stuck at “Initializing 45%”. Setting it back to False in .ini file makes engine load properly.

Used 4.12 Preview 2 version of the engine.

Hey Count,

I was able to test and verify this issue on my end, and have entered a bug report for this issue (UE-30348). The editor will eventually load, but you have to wait quite some time. I made sure to mention in the title of the bug that it hangs/freezes when enabling this option.

Once the fix has been made it will be added into an upcoming full engine release or hotfix, and added to the list of known/fixed issues. If you have further questions or need additional assistance, please let me know.

Cheers,

Will wait for that release then,

Thanks for your help!

It will, you just have to give it some time. I just tried, and it was stuck at 45% for around 5 minutes, and then it loaded. It has to recompile all shaders.

EDIT: Didn’t realize already said this, sorry.

This was verified as ‘By Design’ as it does take some time for the Shaders to compile. However, as I mentioned prior, it will eventually load.

Over 5 years later and doesn’t seem fixed to me, LOL!

I just had this exact same issue in UE 5 today. Except I have reverted the change in the DefaultEngine.ini to r.AllowGlobalClipPlane=False and the editor is still hanging on startup after 30 minutes. This will be an expensive lesson if it does not load as I have 4 days of work already in this project.
