How do I turn off editor sound effects?

Is there a way to turn off or customize the build/run/etc Unreal Editor sound effects?

Hi darrinm,

If you go up to Edit > Editor Preferences then pick the Miscellaneous tab under the Level Editor section. Then uncheck the box that says Enable Editor Sounds.

I don’t believe the actual sounds are customizable unless you have access to the source code and change it from there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, TJ

That doesn’t appear to disable the “Compiling” sound effects though, which totally kill my ears and drill into my brain when I’ve got my headphones on.

Is there any option I’ve missed for disabling that sound effect in the editor?

Hi Takuan,

Are you talking about the quick series of beeps when first packaging a project? I just tested this in version 4.6.1 of the editor and those sounds are muted for me if Editor Sound is disabled. What version are you using?

Not sure if there’s something odd in my game but if I do an OpenLevel command the audio comes back in 4.15.1 when having it set to off in the editor’s Play section.

No big deal but seems like a minor bug. Might try it on a clean game and see if I can replicate and if so submit a bug.

Little bit of necromancy here, but in 4.16 the beeps when compiling the source code don’t remain muted between projects.

Edit: this is a more serious problem for me than most users because those sounds caused a pretty nasty reaction in my partner that seemed almost like a seizure.
