Why do my materials render grey, but only when using a AO material?
I recently implemented an AO map into one of my materials. At first it was working fine when viewing the scene with detail lighting on. I quit my project and loaded it back up. Toggled detail lighting = all the geometry is flat grey. No lighting whatsoever.
If you can provide a little bit more information with your problem I'll see what I can do to help you out.
Have you tried opening a new level/map and are you getting the same results when doing this? Can you provide an image of your material with the node connections that is causing the issue? Can you also include an image of what's going on in the editor view window as well?
If you're okay with attaching a zip with the the level and material that is causing the issue I can gladly look at that and see if I can getting the same results more easily.
Also, I want to note that detail lighting will give a pronounced view of your normal maps. However, the AO will only appear as a soft shadowed texture on your mesh. It does not provide detail as the Normal Map would.
