Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Why do my materials render grey, but only when using a AO material?

I recently implemented an AO map into one of my materials. At first it was working fine when viewing the scene with detail lighting on. I quit my project and loaded it back up. Toggled detail lighting = all the geometry is flat grey. No lighting whatsoever.

Hi Joshezzell,

If you can provide a little bit more information with your problem I'll see what I can do to help you out.

Have you tried opening a new level/map and are you getting the same results when doing this? Can you provide an image of your material with the node connections that is causing the issue? Can you also include an image of what's going on in the editor view window as well?

If you're okay with attaching a zip with the the level and material that is causing the issue I can gladly look at that and see if I can getting the same results more easily.

Also, I want to note that detail lighting will give a pronounced view of your normal maps. However, the AO will only appear as a soft shadowed texture on your mesh. It does not provide detail as the Normal Map would.

Thanks!

Tim

hi , I have same problem also

@xvampire

I was never able to reproduce this with any project I created. Would you be able to provide a simple blank project that reproduces this or detail your steps to recreate the issue?

Any screenshots would also be helpful.

Thank you!

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107682595/DetailLightingIssue.png I wish i could contribute something to narrow the cause of the issue down, but it is actually the contrary for me. I have not applied AO to any of my materials at any point of working on the project and yet have the same issue as joshezzell. Here is the affected project, but since becoming aware of it I've noticed that the issue exists for other projects as well.

Hi Divi,

I've tried to replicate this in another project and to see if perhaps this was just a checkbox that was adjusted or turned off. I couldn't get it to do so. When importing your assets into a new project I was able to view the Detail Lighting view mode with no problem.

If you can replicate this in another project can you post the repro steps here for me to test?

Thank you!

Tim
