4.9.2 - iOS deployed project just crashes

Hello!

I am trying to deploy my project to my iPad Air/iPhone SE. I have managed to get the project to deploy to both devices but it just crashes after the UE4 Splash Screen.

I have an earlier copy of the project that I deployed to Android, and I managed to get this version to deploy on my iPhone. I am guessing it is something I have added to the project since.

I have attached both the deployment log and a crash log (I think). Please let me know what other information will be useful to finding out the cause of the issue!

Hey Sazberryftw,

  • Could you create a copy of your project for 4.10, 4.11 and 4.12 preview and let me know whether or not either one of those versions of the engine actually resolve your deploying crash?
  • It’d also be very helpful to know whether or not you created your project on a binary or source version of the engine?
  • What OS version is your iPad Air and your iPhone on?
  • Are you able to replicate this crash with a brand new project, or just yours?

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Hey Sazberryftw,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thank you!

Hey , sorry for not replying sooner. I thought I had found a thread that may have been my answer but it didn’t work. It said that “Open level” blueprints didn’t work when deployed to iOS, but packaging the game and putting it into the device via Xcode fixed this. I tried this with a friends Mac but it still crashed.

I will get back to you with the info you require later today or tomorrow.

Hello again,

  • So I tested in 4.11 and 4.10 and the
exact same thing happened. I was able
to deploy but the app just crashes
    after the splash screen.

  • I believe I use the binary version?
I’m guessing source is using the
    source code.

  • My iPad is on version 9.3.1 and my
    iPhone is 9.3.2.

  • I tried the default UE4 mobile
project and that worked. I feel it’s
some blueprint I’ve used, maybe the
Open Level blueprint as I mentioned
earlier. I have managed to get an old
build of this project working on
Android, and it’s since then that I
added the open level blueprints. I
guess I’ll take them out and try
    deploying one level.

Thanks for the help!

Can you provide me with updated logs of the crash since you had last checked 4 days ago?

Windows:

  • Open iPhonePackager (Engine/Binaries/DotNET/IOS)
  • Select a uproject file (Optional)
  • Select the Advance Tools tab
  • Select Other Deployment Tools…
  • Select Backup Documents…
  • Select the IPA for the game you wish to get a log for
  • The documents directory data will then be copied to - Engine/Binaries/DotNET/IOS/IOS_Backups or GameDir/IOS_Backups if a uproject was selected
  • The log can then be found at IOS_Backups/Game/Saved/Logs

Mac:

  • Open Xcode (Install Xcode if you have not already)
  • Open Window|Devices
  • Select the device you want to get the log off of
  • Select the app you want to get the log from
  • Select the gear icon under the app list
  • Select Download Container
  • Select a location for the container file
  • Navigate to the file via Finder
  • Right click and select Show Package Contents
  • Navigate to the location of the log (AppData/Documents/Game/Saved/Logs/)

Thanks!

For some reason I am unable to get another crash log. I have followed the guide for Windows for my project in 4.11 and it doesn’t generate a log. Not sure what I’m doing wrong?

Hi , my issue isn’t resolved and I’m still waiting for a reply to my last message so I’m not sure why this question has been marked as resolved.

Sazberryftw,

Thanks for letting me know that I had missed this message earlier.

When you’re going to obtain the logs from the device, have you already tested the game out on the iPhone? If not, that is likely the reason why none of the logs are showing up for you when you’re following the instructions provided.

Let me know.

Now I can’t even get the iOS Config deployment tool to even recognize my devices are plugged in. :frowning: It says it cannot load ‘iTunesMobileDevice.dll’. I tried reinstalled iTunes but it didn’t work.

Sazberryftw,

Have you tried uninstalling iTunes, restarting your computer, installing iTunes again and restarting your computer once again to see if that dll error goes away? It looks like either ‘iTunesMobileDevice.dll’ is missing or corrupted and should just need to be replaced.

I would suggest looking at this [link][1] for additional assistance on that missing dll.

If you have another computer to pull the .dll from, you could do that as well. I can’t upload mine as it’s an invalid file type for AnswerHub, already tried.

Let me know once you’ve gotten further.
