Hi,
I have contact support team through http://help.epicgames.com and they told me to post my problem here to get help from engine support team. Basically my problem is the Launcher is crached everytime i run it so i used both -http=wininet and -opengl as target link for Launcher like this
“C:\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win32\EpicGamesLauncher.exe” -http=wininet -opengl

Now the Launcher work fine ( because i used -opengl ) but when i run the Editor always crash even after shutdown the Kaspersky completely

You can see the logs files with some images about this problem.

  • Which OS are you currently using?

  • At what point does the editor crash?

  • Are you able to create a project? If you have been able to do so, are you able to open the editor by going to \Unreal Projects\PROJECTNAME\ and running the .uproject file?

Which OS are you currently using?
Windows Pro 10 64-bit

At what point does the editor crash?
When i launch it display the logo “Unreal Editor” and the loading goes up to %96 than crash.

Are you able to create a project? If you have been able to do so, are you able to open the editor by going to \Unreal Projects\PROJECTNAME\ and running the .uproject file?
If i can’t make the editor run than i can’t make a new project or even open existing one.

Try using the verify option by going to the launcher>library>engine version dropdown context menu>verify. This will check for damaged or missing files and repair/replace them as necessary. Additionally, can you post your full dxdiag here so I can take a look?

Verifiy option won’t help i try this before

dxdiag

There are a few things to check to see what could be occurring:

  • Make sure that your firewall has both the editor and SwarmAgent set as exceptions.
  • Check if you have any other software running, if so, please let me know so I can test to see if there is a software conflict that we are aware of.
  • Ensure your video card drivers are updated.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the editor.
  • If none of the above work, try getting the source build from github and installing this to see if it is a conflict with the launcher version of the editor or if no version will work.

Latest update installed

Uninstall and reinstall the editor.
I have done this before

I will try now and see

Ok, When i try to run the Editor using Visual 2015 it display a lot or error messages says “Access violation reading location” each message with different adress in memory the first was 0x00007FFDF5C2E04D (OvlDynExt.dll) than 0x00007FFDF5C2E04D (OvlDynExt.dll) , 0x00007FFDF5C2E04D (OvlDynExt.dll), 0x00007FFDF5C2E04D (OvlDynExt.dll) …etc

This is the full first message:

Exception thrown at 0x00007FFDF590E04D (OvlDynExt.dll) in UE4Editor.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00007FFDF55CB430.
If there is a handler for this exception, the program may be safely continued.

Hey Q8Xbox/FlaShow,

Could you go to your UE4 install directory (Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\4.11\Engine\Content\Slate) and tell me if it looks like there is anything missing from the slate folder? Specifically the files/folders listed in the first log that you sent to us?

I’d also like to note that your firewall has exceptions for the Launcher and Swarm, but not UE4Editor.exe (found here: Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\4.11\Engine\Binaries\Win64). Could you add exceptions for that as well?

Can you install 4.12 for me and tell me if you encounter the same errors?

Can you install 4.12 for me and tell me if you encounter the same errors? Yes it is

Note: If a remove -opengl from Launcher target path it will have the same error as the Editor so i think the error related to Graphics Card but not sure.

You can also launch UE4Editor.exe with the -opengl argument to see if it works then. Your GPU should be fine launching with dx11 (default) unless it’s going bad. I’ve got an email out to one of our Support Engineers to look into the logs.

Do you happen to have another GPU to test this out with?

Ok, How can i add -opengl to UE4Editor.exe ?

Do you happen to have another GPU to test this out with?
No, I don’t but I have to mention that when i’m using Windows 8.1 it work fine but after i install Windows 10 and change some PC Parts i’m not sure why this not working anymore ?

Okay, I have add -opengl to UE4Editor.exe so it will open Unreal Project Browser after that if i want to create new project and click on create project button or even open existing one and click on open button it will crash :frowning:

Hey Q8Xbox,

Can you grab me the crash logs for the editor with and without -opengl? You can find them in C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine\4.12\Saved\Logs. I’d suggest clearing that folder before each launch to be sure you’re getting the right logs.

Can you also try running the launcher as an admin without -opengl? Right Click>Run as Administrator. Try this on UE4Editor.exe as well.

EDIT: I just realized this was not suggested before, but can you check that you don’t have any of the software listed here: A new, community-hosted Unreal Engine Wiki - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums

From what you’ve said Win10 sounds like an upgrade or clean install, but best to check if you didn’t install other software first. Was this an upgrade to Win10 or clean install? If an upgrade, you may need to uninstall the editor/launcher and reinstall from scratch.

Hi Mr. Williams,
I already shutdown Kaspersky Antivirus program but the same crash happened also this is not related to Kaspersky since i used it for a long time even when Unreal Engine 4 work before. I have a clean install for windows 10 not upgrade it and i used Run as Administrator with the same result. I think it related to one of the installation driver/program in my computer since also now Unity 5 has the same crash problem…?!

Log files for Unreal Engine 4

This is a report about all the software installed on my computer you can check it.

Installed Programs

Hi Q8Xbox,

Judging by your installed programs list, you are not working on a clean Windows 10 install. It may have been when you first installed it, but there is A LOT of software there that doesn’t come with Windows. If this is occurring across multiple programs(i.e. Unity), you’ll need to reach out instead to a PC Support Forum (something like 's Hardware) and not the individual software developers.
