Object scale effects pixel location?

I have a large vertical cylinder.
When I scale the object, the ramp offset changes.
I’m using the ramp to mask an emissive channel.
Those parameter settings are bogus, here are some sane values.

Offset 900
Power 5
Scale .001

Here.[1]:

Object position and Actor position are different.
Object position is taken from the center of the bounding area.
Actor position is taken from the pivot.

Scaling the object was changing the offset of my gradient.
