Epic Games Launcher very slow download

So I downloaded the setup I found online for unreal engine and it installed a shortcut on my desktop for “Epic Games Launcher” when i launch that it says please wait for a while then starts a 100MB download which estimates my connection speed correctly (around 125kb/s) but downloads rather slowly the percentage even goes backwards for some reason! I made sure I had the ports 80, 443, 5222 open but still nothing… I left it overnight only to wake up to a 25% download! sometimes it even comes up with the window error “EpicGamesLauncher” has stopped working…
Please help! Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem and that solution helped me too. Thank you for posting back the solution you got from support

Hi I’m Hailweil_30

When I dowload Fortnite it is so slow,3 hours later, its still 25%.Is this regular?please make your downloading faster.Thank You

Windows Task Manager shows EpicGamesLauncher using over 5Mbps but the Launcher itself downloads Fortnite at way lower speeds.

i don’t trust this it is a bit.ly thing and that usually gives viruses, don’t trust this person

Bit.ly is just there to shorten links…they don’t download anything, it just redirects you to http://fortnitehelp.epicgames.com/customer/portal/articles/2293545-the-download-gets-stuck-at-a-certain-percentage-and-will-not-progress-when-attempting-to-download-content-from-the-epic-games-launcher?b_id=9729

How many chunks you had to set it to make it work?

I was almost about to give up until I just tried launching the Epic games site from Google chrome. After it let me download a game I used the browser to go back a page. Wouldn’t let me even log back into the site so I switched to explorer and was able to download another game. This was basically one of those days where weird stuff happened to me involving electrical stuff…

epic games its been almost a whole year i am having the same problem with a 23 Mb update it should be going way faster and is not an internet connection problem

That link takes me here.,“Sorry, we couldn’t find that page.
Maybe it was moved, deleted, or you accidentally mistyped the URL.”

How is there no fix?

My install spikes and drops all over the place. No not my system. Steam max download.

Too much effort to install. Probably not play Fortnite. Shame I was going to spend on all the cosmetics add on’s…

Oh well

anyone able to let me know how to increase the speed of downloads on epic games launcher in the most current update of Catalina?

For posterity, the now deleted support page has been archived here.

In case that ever disappears, the solution it gave was:

  1. Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Config\Windows
  2. Open Engine.ini in an editor
  3. Add the following lines to the end of the Engine.ini:
[Portal.BuildPatch]
ChunkDownloads=3

(Presumably ChunkDownloads is bounded by the number of CPU cores you have, so adjust as needed)
4. Restart the launcher

Note that Engine.ini will appear as Engine in file explorer if you haven’t enabled file extensions.

Lastly, the relevant source code which handles the above options is here.

I like how one of their excuses is trying to blame us i promise you im the only one connected to almost half a gigabytepersec speed internet almost 500mbs … there is no reason other than epic games crappy software

I also have this problem. Until a few days ago I could download games at around 10mb/s, but now it stops after a few seconds. Sometimes it donloads a megabyte or two, but at this speed it will take days to download just a few gigabytes. I tried the solution explained here, and it worked until i closed the launcher, but now I can’t get it to work anymore. Not even saving the file again works.

I’m using launcher version 6.28.4. The games i have tried downloading/updating are Spellbreak and Dauntless.

Does anyone have another solution?
