Launcher keeps crashing when downloading engine

The launcher keeps crashing when downloading UE. There are complaints on forum too: epicgameslauncher crashes often when downloading unrealengine - Feedback & Requests - Epic Developer Community Forums I have already sent that error report more than 20 times. When will you guys fix it? I won’t be able to download the engine until and unless this bug is fixed as I don’t have time to monitor the download all the time. Have been trying to download 4.9 for around 3 days and till now I have just managed to download 25%

Hi asesh,

I’m sorry that you are having an issue with the Epic Games Launcher. In order for us to offer the best support, we have recently modified the process for how Epic Games can help troubleshoot your Launcher issue. Please visit http://help.epicgames.com/ for technical support, here you can find information and solutions for common issues, as well as a contact form if you still need additional assistance. Thanks!

Why is it marked as resolved when this bug has still not been fixed? I have sent the necessary data and if I not mistaken I might have to wait for ages for that bug to be fixed. A couple of days back, launcher update was available. Thought you guys fixed it and was shocked that you guys took so little time to fix it but I was wrong. It still crashes a lot

Hi asesh,
The ticket was resolved for our tracking purposes. Launcher support is now directed through http://help.epicgames.com
Your problem sounds similar to a newly identified issue which we are hoping to resolve soon. However i cannot be sure as there is not enough information to work with here.
Did you manage to get through to launcher support via the above link?

They did reply to me and sent me a workaround solution:

Hello Asesh,
Thanks for contacting Epic Games Player Support. The crash you are describing sounds like it is related to a known issue that our developers are currently working on a fix for. In the meantime, please close the launcher, then try the following and let me know if it helps:

  • Right-click on your Epic Games launcher desktop shortcut
  • Select “Properties”
  • In the line labeled “Target,” add the following to the very end (after the quotation mark): -http=wininet
  • It should look something like this: “C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64\EpicGamesLauncher.exe” -http=wininet
  • Click “Apply”
  • Double click the shortcut to run the launcher, and attempt the download again

Now crashing is very rare. Thanks
