4.12 Anim files vanish

Once I updated to 4.12 my anim files have vanished. I can import them and use them in the new sequencer or for whatever but when I close Unreal (Properly) and load it back up. My Anim files associated with the skeletal mesh are no longer there. Everything is still there, materials, Mesh, Physical asset, Its just the Anim files that vanish. I have to re-import them again because they never stay.

Hi Graear55,

I’ll need some more information about this bug…

  • What version of UE4.12 are you using (ie. 4.12.3 ?)

  • Are you using the Launcher version of the Engine or building from Source?

  • Are these custom animations, Animations from the Marketplace, animations from the template or a combination of these?

  • How is your directory set up (before you restart)? Like this?:

Are the uassets in your Contents directory or are they being referenced remotely?

I am using version 4.12.2
I am using the launcher version
I am using a combination of custom animations and from the marketplace.
My directory is setup properly in the content folder.

I havent changed anything or done anything differently since 4.11 and below. I would import the FBX into the engine. Everything would work perfectly. When I updated to 4.12, I can do the same thing and use the animations in that session but once I close the engine and open it, the Anim files are gone. All of the FBX files I use are on my computer.
Hope this helps narrow it down some. Thank you.

Hi Graear55,

This is a bug and has already been reported as UE-32283 in the following thread:

https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/431870/animations-not-saving-to-project.html

Apparently when you import new animations, they are not being marked with an asterisk to save and thus, are not being saved. If you did not see it, another user posted the following work around:

“Save the [newly imported] animations in the asset browser or [save all] assets in the asset browser.”

Let me know if this workaround does not work for you.
