Realistic Mobile Environment Unreal Engine 4

Hi, I had the Idea to make a Big Map Open World for a mobile devices, I’m waiting for Epic to make a Dynamic Day-night cycle to expand the idea hahaha.

Question is

  1. How realistic can be an Open Wolrd Landscape for mobile devices?
Is there an example of landscape with foliage I am missing, I could be looking with wrong keywords or something… or it is not possible, If it is…

  2. Wich tips I should have in mind?
I know that should avoid Maks and use Opaque materials to increase framerate, but is there another way for cheaper foliage? UE 4.12.3 could help with this probably? and also Lighning is strictly STATIC and some things like Motion Blur should be turned Off, any way to mimic them? Day Cycle could be archived rotating the environment for example… Bad idea…

Keep in mind if that it should be playable at 30fps so without NPC’s and other it should run at 40-50fps (I guess…??)

Thanks for read and taking the time for answer

As it is right now with mobile devices, is that they do not have the power to render realistic open world environments. You’ll have to narrow the world down by a lot. The storage on mobile devices are very limited too, many don’t even have 1 gb available, so using larger textures will not be possible. There is a reason that there is no such game out there on the mobile market.

Thank you for the answer! : D I had forgot this thread long ago :v

I would like to agree with you but with the potential of ** vulkan ** there is a big possibility now days. Not through hi-polly or lots of textures, light is out the scope … ** can not be realistic **, I found the answer myself during my research, but there can be a mobile open world game, with the right gameplay and The right art style.

“Limitation is not a weakness, its a tool, you have to use it wisely”

For instance Galaxy S6 will do you world proud trust me on these. You can make huge worlds and it will deliver the graphics you looking for. HOW EVER: if you put to much in it will run but you might get slow down and a overheating phone. Also you can make huge worlds but with a lot of walls so the phone doesn’t have to calculate the background. I did push the S6 to it’s limits and on the end that’s what really happen and yes the type of phone that can handle such Sorcery is equality important–O…
