[Mac] Editor Loads Wrong Project

I’ve noticed that since 4.12.4, running on Mac OSX version 10.11.5, the Unreal Editor will load up the wrong Project when you either double-click a project’s image in the Open Project window or when you click the image once and then select the Open option.

The Editor instead loads the Project that was selected by default when starting the Launcher.

Currently the only way to open the correct project seems to be to double-click the .uproject file directly.

This combined with the bug where instances of the Editor hang on exit, causing a ghosting application that prevents system shutdown, makes for a tedious workflow just opening projects.

Hi Shrooblord,

I was unable to recreate this issue with the following steps:

  1. Launch UE 4.12.5
  2. Create & Open new Third Person Blueprint project (w/out Starter Content)
  3. In Project Settings>Maps: Select this map to be the default map to open
  4. Close Editor
  5. In Launcher, double-click different project to open
  6. RESULT: Selected project opens as expected
  7. Close Editor and Launcher
  8. Open Launcher and select a different project from the first two to open in UE4.12.5
  9. RESULT: Selected project opens as expected

Please let me know if these steps are an accurate test for this issue and, if not, please list the correct way to test for the issue you are reporting.

In the meantime, the following may resolve the issue for you: With the Editor closed, make a copy of the Config folder and move it to the desktop. Then delete the Config folder from the Project Folder. Launch a different project than the one you deleted the Config folder from by double clicking it’s preview image in the Launcher: If this did not resolve the issue, you can restore the Config folder from the Desktop to the Project folder.

Hi Shrooblord,

Since we have not heard back from you in a few days, we are closing this post for tracking purposes. However, if you are still experiencing an issue with the Editor loading the wrong project, please respond with the requested information above and we will continue to investigate.

Thanks,

After reinstalling OS X and reinstalling the Engine, the problem no longer persists. Perhaps it was a config problem as you mentioned. Thank you.

Hello, I have the same exact Problem. In fact, the Engine loads the first project that is in the projects window.

IT is a hit or miss thing, meaning it doesn’t happen all the time, but it does happen very frequently and is very annoying.

I also get that hang as well, sometimes certain parts of Unreal Engine will freeze, and mouse input will become disabled, however I can still command+q to exit and press enter to save…

Has been happening to me ever since I installed Unreal Engine, I am currently on 4.13.2 , and MacOSX

Hi RexVex86,

Do you have the project set as the default project in your Project Settings. That will cause the same project to open every time that version of the Engine is launched. If this is not the case, have you tried the troubleshooting steps I’ve listed above and the solution by Shrooblord below? Please try all of these and let me know if they do not resolve the issue.

Thanks,

.
