Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

difference b/w a level designer and an environment artist

Hi! I was going through the 'hiring' section in the forums, and saw different posts for level designers and environment artists. So I wanted to know the difference b/w a level designer and an environment artist/designer.

Thanks!

My quick though about this:

  • The level designer will create the level to match the gameplay of the game.

  • The environment artist will create the ambiance of the level, but will not influence the gameplay

ok. So, if I want to make a landscape, a house interior etc, will i talk to a environment artist or level designer?

This is not precise enough. Let take your landscape example. Let's say you are doing a ski game.

You need someone to create the landscape so the ski ride will be interesting. Your player will have lot of different spot to spend time on etc -> Level designer.

Or do you need someone to create the forests, flowers, animals, and so on so your landscape will look beautiful -> Environment artist

1 answer: sort voted first

Level designer: leaning towards gameplay elements, composition, blocking, creating point of interest, etc. Level artist: creating art assets for the level.

There is a good video tutorial by Epic that beautifully shows the difference between both:
