Standalone or packaged application exiting at the beginning when VR is plugged

I’m experiencing a weird behavior: when a game application (even the first person demo with just one option: Project Settings -> Rendering -> VR Instanced Stereo) is run in standalone or from the packaged executable and my Oculus VR is plugged in (Oculus app running), the application will load and then suddenly exit gracefully before the game even starts.

This happens once or twice before I can click and the game actually starts.

I’m using UE 4.12.5, Windows 8.1 x64. I gave administrator privileges to the application before starting it (didn’t solve).

What could be causing this issue?

I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. I noticed that you said you can reproduce this issue in a FPS template, does this mean that you can reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps in order to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. If you say that the application exits, do you mean that it crashes?
  4. If so, could you provide the complete callstack that is given?
  5. What Oculus device are you currently using?
  6. What version of the oculus runtime/ oculus home are you using?
  7. Could you provide screen shots of any blueprints/setting that may be involved with this issue?
