Runaway child process spawning Linux Editor

Starting the UE4Editor in causes a huge number of child processes to be spawned until Linux pukes an ‘out of resources’ error. Yes, I know Linux is not well supported yet. But I know there’s people working on it. I’m sure someone has run across this problem already. Log file below:

There may be a couple of problems:

  1. ShaderCompilerWorker was not started correctly (e.g. incorrect path, name, or permissions)
  2. ShaderCompiler is not using FProcHandle-based API but tracks PIDs, which on Unix platforms means that children are never wait()ed for and thus leak PIDs (Windows doesn’t have the concept of zombies).

Both are going to be fixed, but for the time being you can disable SCW by editing Engine/Config/Linux/LinuxEditor.ini and adding this:
