Level: Minimal-Default(Persistent) is that normal?

when i open a blank project in UE4 my editor viewport is set at Minimal_Default(Persistent) and everything appears grainy is there a way to change that because i accidentally blanked out my editor viewport and i had to do a reset layout and now main viewport doesn’t look same. please help.

Thanks

floor in main viewport looks grainy so does bottom of two chairs and table specifically it was not that grainy before i did the “reset layout”, maybe it’s just me but it did not appear so grainy before that. As for the "Level: Minimal_Default(Persistent) it does appear at bottom right in main viewport and like you said at top of editor in tab. hope you can help.

Thanks

Okay, yes, I forgot it also lists level name in lower-right of Viewport. If you select another level, that will update.

I’ve tried reproducing graininess increase you described, but haven’t had any luck. grainy effect you’re seeing has to do with materials and lighting in level, and is there by default. I’m not sure how resetting layout and reopening editor would cause an increase.

How drastic a change are you seeing? If you start a new project, does grainy level stay same? Would you mind attaching a screenshot showing current state of graininess? Thanks!

i have tried to reset layout and reopen editor and i still see graininess on floor but you are right i did open a different project and there was no graininess, anyway i will attach a picture of blank project.

Thanks

Hey Francois,

I was about to answer your post and accidentally hit ‘delete’ option… Sorry! AnswerHub doesn’t allow me to undo that delete (and doesn’t give me a warning), but I was able to recover what we had talked about, and am pasting it below.

Hey Francois,

When you say your editor viewport is set at Minimal_Default(Persistent), where do you see that? Minimal_Default is name of default map in a new project, so you should see that in tab up at top of editor. Persistent is referring to being in Persistent level in regards to Level Streaming, and I’m not sure where you’re seeing that listed (unless you have Levels window open, which isn’t open by default).

In what way does your main viewport look different, specifically? Was it grainy to begin with, or only after resetting layout?

Hey Francois,

It’s hard to tell for certain from screenshot, but that looks about normal to me. If you open a new project and use its Minimal_Default map, it doesn’t look as grainy?

Glad to hear it! I’ll keep looking into this to see if I can figure out what caused it. If it happens again, please let us know!

no it doesn’t i did open another project and it doesn’t look as grainy,

Thanks

I’m having a similar issue: There was a message stating that it couldn’t play at 30 fps and it was dropping to minimal level. Now materials don’t look as refined and screen is very aliased–lower resolution. I’d like to restore it back. This was with default chair scene

Thank you

Hi kbrilliant,

It sounds like your Scalability Settings were live-adjusted. Use Settings > Engine Scalability Settings to readjust them to what you’d like to see, then disable Monitor Editor Performance checkbox so it doesn’t update automatically again. Hope that helps!
