Items going through world upon placing them

Hi,

I’ve encountered this problem before on Unreal Engine 4.11 where when placing items from the content browser into the world, they are not actually colliding with the landscape…

What I mean is, when going to place something into the world, they go under it. I then have to drag it up on to the surface. Annoying!

Any help regarding this question is appreciated!

Many thanks,

Ben.

Hi smashedeagle,

I was not able to reproduce this bug following these repro steps:

  1. Create a blank blueprint project with Starter Content
  2. Create a new Landscape Plane and fill with any Material
  3. Sculpt hills into Landscape for variance
  4. Drag chair into viewport over landscape plane

Result: Chair defaults to sitting adjacent to surface of landscape according to its pivot point no matter where placed as shown here:

If this is not an accurate reproduction of how to test for the issue, please provide new repro steps (with an image, if possible.)

Thanks,

.

Do you happen to have Grid Snapping on? I know this will cause this to happen for me as it will snap instantly. Another potential cause would be if the surfaces do not have collision on them.

Hello both,

Thank you for your time and knowledge!

, It happens that the item goes through the world. I’ve attached a Gif image to show you!

NoahTimefireVR, how do i enable world snapping? Thank you.

Many thanks,

Ben

This guy up here. If you click the button next to it, it can give you some additional options such as “Surface Snapping”

I’ve tried recreating this with snap to grid enabled and disabled as well as turning the collision off for objects, then back on with no results. In your Gif, I cannot see what object you are placing…

Please open a blank template with starter content then migrate the chair from my image above into your current project. Then drag the chair into the scene from the Content Browser and see if it exhibits the same behavior.

Hi smashedeagle,

Since we have not heard back from you in a while, we are closing this post for tracking purposes. However, if you are still experiencing an issue with assets placed under or through the landscape plane, please set up an new blank project with assets (as shown above) and drag the chair into the scene in order to reproduce the issue. This will show if whether the bug is occurring just in your project or, if not, it will aid in determining how we can create the bug on our end. Without being able to do so, we will not be able to determine what to fix.

Thanks,

.
