After VR Preview, Vive drops frame until Unreal is closed

Reproducible on 4.12 and 4.13 preview 2

When using the HTC Vive and SteamVR, after I close a VR Preview of my game, the Vive begins missing frames consistently and is labelled unresponsive. This is fixed immediately by closing Unreal Engine. I can reproduce the problem on both 4.12 and 4.13 preview 2 and it happens every time I use the VR preview.

I am also being affected by open issue UE-29224 (Unreal Engine Issues and Bug Tracker (UE-29224)), where the last frame of the VR preview remains after it is closed, but not as consistently so am, unsure if they are related.

Has anyone seen this and know a fix? Else this should be added to the issues list. Thanks very much for your help

I’ve had similar performance problems with Vive, too, but I’m not sure it’s the same thing. Here are 2 of them:

  1. After editing, playing, editing, playing, etc. for a while, I’m no longer able to reach 90 FPS. If I exit the editor and launch it again, I’m back up to 90.

  2. The biggest problem is where all of a sudden my frame rate will take a major dive. The game will stutter severely while the Vive display flickers horribly. Sometimes, if I just wait, it’ll suddenly fix itself. Other times, I’ll have to exit the editor and relaunch.

Do these sound in any way similar to what you’re seeing?

I have exactly the same problem on UE 4.12.5. Any update / info from Epic?

I haven’t heard from Epic on this. The problem still happens, though I haven’t tried 4.13 yet.
