Game (PIE/Standalone) takes a long time to load/close

Hello there,

like the title says, when I hit the PIE-Button, it takes quite some time to load the level. When I close the PIE-Window it sometimes takes up to a minute to close it completely before I can use the editor again. Especially on the first time I hit the PIE-Button. The second time it is a little bit faster.

When I close the Editor altogether, Visual Studio also keeps up the process (UE4) for some time. The UE4-Process seems to take up 11 GB of Memory (according to Visual Studio).

When I quit the packaged game it also takes very long before it closes.

I have the strong feeling that it has to do with the large amount of my instanced foliage. Since the trees in my level all have simple collision on them, I think it could take the program some time to clear the memory after shutdown?

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response, GameMaker.

Though I am using Windows 10, I already know most of the tweaks described in the article and used them already.

Also I don’t really think that Windows is the cause of the problem, because other levels do work without a problem.

Thanks though.

Add RAM if possible
Avoid thermal throttling
Remove animations
Turn off autoupdate on all softwares
