How do I create a simple starfield skybox?

I came across this: How to create simple space skybox? - Rendering - Epic Developer Community Forums

I’ve created my cube map to use, but I can’t figure out how to implement it as a skybox. documentation is a little lacking in this area, or I’m just way too new to this to figure it out.

Can anyone offer a hand, please?

Did you try comment in link you posted explaining it step by step? Not trying to sound like an *** here, just checking if you tried it and it didn’t work?

There was a great post on implementing a skybox here:

same link, whoops. browser fail

Getting comments deleted for no reason is hurtful btw

Hey Dieselhead,

It wasn’t deleted. Our profanity filter caught it. Careful!

I bleeped out word for you and posted it below.

I’ve had a bad day so I’m glad to hear this, I’ve learned something new. Sorry for posting with an attitude and hijacking topic and thanks for being cool, you guys are great.

Hey Spinkler,

Once you have a working cubemap, you can drop it into your level and it should show up as any other Actor if it is set up correctly. You’ll want to make sure you remove existing sky sphere (usually BP_Sky_Sphere is default for our templates).

Best,

I (thought I) did try, Dieselhead. While I’m very experienced in I.T. and Photoshop, and somewhat experienced in Blender and Illustrator, I felt I was missing something simple.

Looks like I was, it was incredibly late last night when I posted this and I seem to have followed link that is inside link that I provided without reading whole post through! I completely missed “walkthrough” underneath that article, and somehow I’ve only read top replies. Now I feel like a dunce. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your suggestion, I can’t believe I overlooked that. I’ll get onto trying that now combined with replies below, and I’ll post again if it doesn’t work out. Sorry to waste everyone’s time, and thank you kindly for replies!

Thanks, ! Seems I somehow overlooked full-blown walkthrough in post I’ve linked, anyway, so that should point me in right direction, too.

Note to self: No more posting for help when I’m incredibly tired. I will wait until morning.

for anyone still reading this old post… here’s some awesome free software to make a star skybox…
