Transparent Material not showing on backface

Hey there,

i am having a problem with the glas of the outside windows in my scene. I did a ton of research, but could not find the mistake i am making.

In the screenshots you see a green tinted (for demonstration) glas material on the outside windows. Of course, you walk in side the building. But, from inside the glas looks gray/dark and the tint has disappeared. it also happens with normal glas and blurred glas. From outside it looks fine, but from inside the glas material is not recognizable.

What i tried:

  1. Set material and mesh to double-sided
  2. Flipped the faces in 3dsmax & reimport
  3. Made a test with a single face window-glas
  4. Also flipped it & reimport

Nothing is working ;( .

Thank you,
Hannes

Hi MRZylinder,

Due to it’s translucency, in order to have a transparent material appear the same on both sides you will need to have 2 planes instead of 1 with the UVs facing the viewer from each side (as shown in the images below.) Furthermore, it would be more efficient to import one window then place multiple instances of that window.

You can only render two sides of a plane if the material is opaque as shown below:

-.

Thank you for the answer  I helped!.
