Why does my destructible mesh bounce and freeze mid-air above the ground?

I have created a destructible mesh of the UFO static mesh in the fly project, I placed it in a high point and configured all the settings, now when I hit simulate, the mesh falls down, it gets fractured, but in about 50% of the time, it bounces off the ground and freezes without getting completely destroyed into debris on the ground, the other 50% its completely destroyed, why this happens ? is it misconfig some where ?

Thanks!

Hi Max008,

I’ve been able to reproduce this and I’ve submitted this in a bug report. I setup a cube and was able to get it reproduce every time the mesh would hit a flat surface against flat surface. The only workaround I found was to have the mesh rotated slightly, I played around with some of the resistance settings and having the mesh fractured into more pieces seemed to alleviate the issue. Granted having more fractures will affect performance in some cases depending on number of fractures it may be something to help you along for the moment.

Thanks!

Tim

Thanks! I’m just testing different stuff but I hope this will be fixed in 4.2, the engine is very cool!

Unfortnately, it won’t be in 4.2 as we have already branched from that build and are working on 4.3.

However, I do not know when it will be fixed. I do keep a check on my bug reports to see if they have been addressed and fixed. As soon as I see it listed as fixed I’ll test it out and be sure to post back here as an Update.

There are a lot of settings to fiddle with in our destructible meshes that can affect a lot of things. It’s not the most intuitive system to mess with but it sure is fun! Something to look into for some real destructible fun is APEX destruction.

If you have any questions feel free to post and let us know!

Thanks!

Tim

Never fixed…
