UnrealEngineLauncher.exe crashes

Howdy,

I’ve just installed the latest version of UE4 (not full source). Installation appears to complete successfully, but when it tries to automatically launch UnrealEngineLauncher.exe on completion, the process runs for a few seconds, then crashes with no launcher window appearing. Running UnrealEngineLauncher.exe exhibits the same behaviour, both via the desktop shortcut and directly from the exe’s folder.

I’ve attached my dxdiag info, the launcher log, and the launcher dmp files in case they’re of use in troubleshooting this.

The log suggests the issue is from SlateD3DShaders.cpp, so perhaps I need to change my graphics drivers / update DirectX.

I’m also wondering whether I’m missing any redistributable packages, so I’ve downloaded the ones suggested in this answer. I’m firstly installing Visual Studio 2013 Express, but that’s because I’ll be using it for coding.

I’ll come back with results of how those attempts at fixing this issue went.

Edit:

Whoops, forgot to link the files (can’t attach the log due to file extension, and the dmp is too small to attach):

DxDiag

No change after installing VS2013 Express + restarting as needed (didn’t expect there to be a change really).

No change after running vcredist_x86.exe or vcredist_x64.exe.

Attempting DirectX update, then failing that following with a graphics driver update.

Scratch that, I saw an answer suggested installing SP1 for Windows 7 users. I’ve been selectively updating from SP1 in the past, so I’ll now update everything and see how that goes.

Downloading the remaining updates (except for Bing desktop integration) for SP1 did the trick. The updates included an Nvidia update, and some SQL Server updates.

I’m really glad you were able to get past the issue! To help us try and pinpoint the root problem, would you post your new DxDiag info? I would like to compare it to the last one you posted and see how your driver versions have changed.

No worries, here it is.link text

Another update - I’ve returned to having the same error as described in the first post. Updating the engine to the latest version hasn’t fixed the issue. I’m not sure if I should unmark this as answered or open another question, so I’m posting here for ease of access to this case’s history.

Here’s my current dxdiag, editor dump, and editor log.
