Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

[BP] My UMAP file appears to be an asset file?

Hi Everyone,

My Unreal Engine 4.12 project won't open a level I made in the ThirdPersonExample template. Everytime I try to load the map I get a message saying "Failed to load map! ../../../../../Users/Gebruiker/Documents/Unreal Projects/EndlessRunneralpha3 4.12/Content/World.umap appears to be an asset file." I copied the folder and opened the project from there, I verified the Unreal Engine version, I copied my map in the Contents folder and renamed it to force Unreal to open it, I browsed through all the answers on this forum but nothing helped. Can someone please help me, I've worked on this project for many months and would like to get a solution for this.

Greetings, thoMASTERsie

EDIT: I also tried opening my second level (made from a blank level), but the same problem occurs, Unreal still reports the umap is an asset file and not a level :/

Product Version: UE 4.12

Hello THOMASTERSIE,

I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?

  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?

  3. Could you provide screen shots of any relevant steps needed to reproduce this issue?

  4. Could you try migrating your level (Right click > Asset Actions > Migrate) instead of copy and pasting?

Hi Rudy Triplett,

I don't know why, but changing the default level in the project settings into my level solved the issue.
