Media Framework does not playback mp4 or wmf

Good day everybody !

I’ve followed from the documentation all the steps to add a media file source in the editor and when I try to playback a wmf or mp4 video I get this error in the Output log:

LogMediaAssets:Error: Could not find a native player for file://D:/MOVR/Projects/4.13/bayer360_holopreview_ue4_project/Content/Movies/bayer360_vrce_cebit_360.wmv

It states simply that the media cannot be opened because the “native player” is missing, even if, I am using Windows 10 which still has, or should have, the media player incorporated …

Is this an issue caused by Windows 10 ? Or a bug that can be fixed in future versions of UE4 ?

If somebody knows anything about this issue, let me know, I have to solve this for my job :frowning:

Thanks a lot !

Hello Vladone,

Could you provide me with some screenshots in how you are calling the Media Player to playback your video?

There is a specific process that has changed since 4.12.5 which needs to be adhered to in order to play videos successfully.

Take a look at this post I recently entered a bug report for a user on 4.13 which has been fixed for the upcoming hotfix.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Cheers,

Vladone, can you please attach the whole log file, thanks!

I’ve fixed the current playback issue. Because I have Windows 10 N, I’ve missed a media player component and I had to download an update fix from Microsoft.

Here is a link on Steam forums towards these updates for other persons who may have this Windows N issue(scroll down for the most downwards comment):
