Am I able to use all free assets in the marketplace in my own product

I wish to make a game and have it published on Steam to help me get into a polytechnic that I don’t meet the entry requirements for, unless I have industry experience. I don’t know if I will or will not make the game free or paid at this point in time.

I have been making a lot of my own assets, but I don’t have time to do most of them. There are a lot of assets in the Starter Content as well as assets in the Marketplace, such as those from Infinity Blade. Am I free to use those in my own game?

Touchy subject. Short answer Yes. But there is a HUGE DISCLAIMER!
When using assets in the marketplace that are given to you for free it is not a good idea to use them in a premium project (or paid game) as that is considered scummy and will probably get you shamed. However it is not illegal unless otherwise stated.

What you could do is use them, but use your remaining time to tweak them to make them “yours” and, no just renaming them is not enough.

The other however is that if your a programmer then using other peoples art is OK, but if your an artist using other peoples art is a no no.

The next However is the definition of “Industry Experience” yes, a game would do it. But also an internship would probably work too.

If you must use other peoples art you MUST MAKE IT OBVIOUS IT IS NOT YOURS. As plagiarism or suspected plagiarism will get you almost banned from the industry.

TL:DR–Don’t, unless desperate, if then make it yours, or tell them its not yours.

not only it is NOT a shame to use free assets from marketplace but also it will show off your skills and creativity and art if you can use them and make an attractive game :))))

you are free to use them.

I am not a modeler or an artist and making my game on my own using mostly free assets and mixamo characters.

you can create an outstanding art from a bottle if you are creative enough

Sorry I wasn’t very clear. But if your using the assets to further learning than that is fine. It’s only when you ask money without adding anything if your own, that’s when you run into issues.

you are using the best game engine for free for commercial use is it a shame?

is it a shame if your revenue is less than 3000$ without having to pay royalties?

as game developers we are paid to make worthy and playable and attractive games so people have good and funny time when playing it.

is it a shame to use blender which is free to model?

as a person who is making a game alone, the time that he takes to program to design levels to work on improving gameplay is precious enough to not to be shamed when being paid.

after all we are talking about free royalty assets not illegal stuffs

I’m saying selling other people’s artwork as your own is bad, not illegal, and if you use it as a learning tool and using it for free is not illegal either. Software that is developed under the pretense that it will be used as such is fine. And ya use paid assets like crazy. Use free assets like crazy just keep in mind my disclaimer.

Tekuno asked a question and I answered, if he doesn’t like my answer then he can delete mine, or go about his life. If you think otherwise please post your opinion, and if the questioner likes your opinion more then your answer will get voted. Nowhere am I pointing fingers, nowhere am I questioning methods, and nowhere did I call using assets illegal.

do not get angry with me. it is a friendly discussion between friends

yes it is not good to use people’s artwork but please do not call it a shame when they let us to use them for commercial use .

when you say you will get shamed it sounds like it is illegal and we are criminal :)))))))

I apologize my friend. if I said something furious

Sorry, got defensive.
