When Does First Person View Come in Handy?

Hello. I’ve never made a first person game before, so stay with me. My question is, When would the first person view come in handy? I know how to make the first person view, so please don’t post answers for that. What I want to know is why should I use the first person view. Wouldn’t be more efficient to use a skeletal mesh that everybody can see so you don’t have to make extra animations? Thanks for any responses

A few games actually do use a full skeletal mesh. Alien isolation is one. You can look down and see the feet and legs of player. Generally for a more immersive experience fps is the way to go. The amount of animations depends on what you want to do.

Thanks for the answer. Is that the only thing the FP view is good for though?

Perhaps. As an artist that is how I look at it. If you want the player to feel part of the environment, like the things happening in the game are happening to them and not a character they control. There may be other reasons some game developers use the FP view but this is my opinion.
