Is ad revenue through ingame billboards possible?

Instead of using banners or interstitials I was hoping to show ads on ingame objects like walls, posters or billboards, but is this even possible? And if its possible, then how will views be determined and are all ad providers capable of this, and, is it possible through blueprints? Are there examples?

you could have it recognise a player come into contact with it or have people click on it to open up a page that records clicks.

Thanks for your suggestion. But the question is not so much if I could get ads ingame as posters and such, determining that a player is looking at one should also be pretty straightforward, my question is more about if and how this can be communicated to a ad providing party in a way that generates income. Are there standard methods to do this, or perhaps examples? Would this work for all ad providers or just for specific ones?

Unfortunately I have never seen this done. All i could think of is a camera to pick up the players mesh when walking by or looking at it and look at how many times that has happened and then have a counter in a file somewhere and send it to whomever at the end of every month.

I would personally go with streaming some banner- or moviecontent on a surface, raycasting the players focus to determine if the player watches the content or not.
The question is, is there a method that is recognized by the advertisers to determine ‘viewed ads’ in that manner, or not, and if so, is there an example?

  • A clip like this suggests it should be possible: - YouTube

It seems to not be possible with Admob:
"Hi there,

Unfortunately, there is currently no way for you to display ads in a three-dimensional space or object using the AdMob SDK.
Banner and Native Express Ads are currently only available to be displayed in 6 predefined areas of the screen (Left, Center or Right on both the Top and on the Bottom of the screen), while Interstitial and Rewarded Video Ads are displayed in full-screen.

Regards,"
