Attempting to replace an object that hasn't been fully loaded

I couldn’t open my project (4.12.5 and 4.13.0). The splash screen started but after the screen simply nothing happened.
I found something in the answer hub about deleting config and after some trial and error I found the problem in the Default.ini. After removing the line with DefaultEditorMap it started. But I couldn’t open the maps, instead it just silently closes every time.

My player character has a stimuli source component. I use AIPerception components in a base class (“Monster”), the class “TestMonster” (see log) is inheriting these components. All of them are blueprint assets.

I am not able to open ANY of these assets. Opening causes a silent crash and I need to reopen the project.

I cannot work with this. Please help me.

It looks like this is a known issue, UE-34568. Unfortunately, we cannot make the ticket public as it contains sensitive information, but the crash occurs because of what is believed to be a blueprint cyclic dependency when creating a Default Sub Object for instanced properties.

I’ll provide updates on the issue as they become available.

There aren’t any known workarounds at the time, so the only suggestion I’d have would be to roll back to a previous version of the project if you’re using Source Control.

Can you provide some more information or/and the expected time (or version) for a fix? Seriously, I am loosing like 80% of my work because of this problem. Here an example (a macro): If I have the connected inputs, everything is fine, if I connect the lower node instead, I get the crash after save and restart. I cannot see a cyclic dependency or any patterns in this crash to know what to avoid or what is safe to use.

The issue has been reported as fixed for 4.14. Unfortunately, at this time there are no known workarounds for this issue. If you’re using source and would like the fix commit to merge into your engine, let me know and I can see if that’s something that is available for me to provide.

Thank you. I checked it out but unfortunately I still get the crashes. First I compiled the recent master branch commit and after that failed, I reverted my master branch to that f64d5529 commit and checked again but got the same problem.

Hey mcmatze,

If the fix commit is not resolving your issue, it’s possible that you’re experiencing a slightly different crash.

Unfortunately, without a solid repro case, we are unable to take any further action on this issue.

What I’d recommend is migrating the assets one by one into a clean project until the crash occurs, and then you’ll be able to determine which asset(s) are affected and go from there.

I don’t know what happened, but it seems to work now. I just started the engine, changed the BP to a “crash setting”, saved and opened it in a second UE4 (without closing the other UE4). Surprisingly no error. After closing and reopening everything in one instance… no crash. I will test this on more computers. Version still 4.13.1. If you still like to have the files, can you provide something to upload?

If the crash is no longer occurring, there’s no need to provide the assets. However, if you find the crash occurring again then feel free to reopen this thread and provide the project.

I have this very same issue on 4.15 - is there any way to resolve this?

Please open a new thread for the crash you are experiencing, and provide the following:

  • Logs
  • Callstack and LoginID
  • Test it in a clean project and provide a detailed list of repro steps, or as much information as you can regarding how to reproduce it

(for me it works, if I delete all childs uassets with the perception inherited then load the project and add them again. but only until restart…)
