Alembic importer crashes if Mesh Distance Fields are enabled

If your project has the Mesh Distance Fields option enabled in Rendering, then any Alembic import (at least any we tried) will crash on import while trying to build the distance field data. Disabling the option allows all our test files to import properly, but then we no longer have mesh distance fields :slight_smile:

Thank you for submitting a bug report. I have reproduced this issue and logged a report for it here:

You can track the report’s status as the issue is reviewed by our development staff.
No work around is currently known for this. There are currently a lot of crash issues related with alembic files so you may have to wait until this is addressed and use a different means of importing assets.

This is seriously not targetted until 4.14? This is a pretty fundamental problem and will completely prevent us from using Alembic.

Guess its back to using our in house plugin instead.
